private midwife and birthWORKER cheshire
Supporting you on your unique journey through pregnancy & birth
I am here to serve women as well as fellow birth workers who find themselves in the space in between, helping you forge your own path in pregnancy, and experience birth as the rite of passage it was designed to be.
Hey, I’m April!
I believe birth has the power to transform, awaken, & heal you on a cellular level
I’ve been a passionate birth worker for 13 years. Birth is more than "just one day" in your life. It is an integral part of the evolution of you, as you matriece (become a mother).
My own experiences of birth and becoming a mother have been transformational, and given me a passion to work with women.
Before I formally trained and qualified as a midwife, I spent many years running breastfeeding support groups, mother and baby groups, and assisting with sling libraries. I also trained and worked alongside families as a birth and post natal doula.
I never imagined I would widen my experience and perspective working within the maternity system, but one day I clearly heard the call, and my path led me into the system where I currently practice.
Regardless of the title doula or midwife, I have always walked the edges of the clearly defined boundaries the world likes to use to define us.
I enjoy sharing my own unique perspective as a doula turned midwife, what I love about both roles, how I have been stretched and challenged, how I have grown, and how I continue to learn all the time from the women I serve.
Meeting you where you’re at
I am well aware of the wide range of opinions, birth stories, and information coming at women from social media, podcasts, friends, and family.
Learning about and Preparing for birth is something that should done with intention, given time, and taylored to you and where you are at at this point in your life's journey.
There is rarely the time for this modern antenatal care settings, where care exists within guidelines that are designed for the population, not for individuals. I understand and have personally experienced how the birth world is becoming increasingly polarised in the media and in online spaces.
It can be easy to sign up to an idealogy of birth without understanding the physiology of birth and how intracately woven your mind, body, cultural beliefs, and past experiences are.
I am here to serve women as well as fellow birth workers who find themselves in the space in between, helping you forge your own path in pregnancy, and experience birth as the rite of passage it was desiged to be.
I do not use or promote any specific methodology, but through getting to know you as an individual and listening to you, I can help you identify the wisdom that is right for you, for this birth, and at this part of your journey.
